Modern Campus Security: Balancing Access, Budget, and Safety
Securing a school campus presents a unique challenge for security professionals, especially for colleges and universities: Many are designed to be open, inviting, and shared with the surrounding community — the opposite of a traditional lock-and-key corporate site. That openness is the point, and also the challenge.
In this session, Capt. Marty King with the University of South Florida Police Department brings the perspective of a massive public university system — on-campus housing, commuting students, sprawling parking complexes, and a full-scale campus police department navigating intruders, strong investigation process, staffing shortages, and board-level budget conversations, all at once.
