What is LVT?

Keeping Communities Safe by Stopping Bad Actors
You’ve likely seen LVT Units across your city in grocery store parking lots, outside of business centers, on college campuses, and in parks or public spaces. LVT Units are designed to be visible, so potential bad actors are aware of a security presence in the area, and citizens can feel more safe knowing the area is being monitored.
We work with our customers to adjust the settings for the specific environment where the unit is placed. If the volume or flashing lights are bothering community members, they can reach out to support@lvt.com.

The Technology Inside Each LVT Unit
LVT Units have several recognizable features that make them powerful for detecting and deterring criminal activity:
Power Source
The units are powered by a solar panel, meaning they can be placed anywhere without needing a wired power source.

The Technology Inside Each LVT Unit
LVT Units have several recognizable features that make them powerful for detecting and deterring criminal activity:
Camera Visibility
Multiple cameras can each have a different ability, including cameras that can see long ranges in total darkness or panoramic cameras with a 360-degree view.

The Technology Inside Each LVT Unit
LVT Units have several recognizable features that make them powerful for detecting and deterring criminal activity:
Active Lighting
A spotlight or floodlight can brighten a dark area and follow suspects who may be trying to hide from view.

LVT Units have several recognizable features that make them powerful for detecting and deterring criminal activity:
Audio Deterrence
A loudspeaker can play automated messages or issue custom announcements if suspicious or unauthorized activity occurs.
How LVT Uses Artificial Intelligence (AI)
LVT uses artificial intelligence (AI) trained on human behavior—how people typically move and act in public spaces—to identify potentially suspicious activity, such as someone looking in car windows or hiding from sight.
Security teams are notified of potential suspicious activity so they can assess the situation. LVT Units also take action to deter suspicious activities by turning on a floodlight or issuing an audio warning.
LVT's AI focuses on behavior and does not discriminate by gender, race, or ethnicity. LVT believes in the ethical use of AI and that people deserve a right to anonymity, so our systems never try to match a person to a name, address, or phone number. LVT’s AI does not use any facial recognition technology, and it does not train any AI models on unauthorized data.

What LVT Does and Doesn’t Do
LVT Does
- LVT's technology is designed to balance security needs with civil rights.
- LVT focuses on AI that looks at behavior or clothing instead of identifying the characteristics of individuals.
- Less than 0.1% of customer footage is held for long-term storage.
LVT Does Not
- LVT systems do not actively apply facial recognition capabilities.
- LVT’s AI does not focus on race, gender, religious or political signifiers, body type, or characteristics.
- LVT's customers own their data, and LVT does not share footage to any third party unless authorized by the customer or required by law.
- LVT does not view customer footage without the customer's authorization.
Your Questions Answered
- LVT Units are typically watched by the same security personnel who monitor the cameras inside and outside the property. The LVT Unit extends the security footprint already established, allowing our customers to cover blind spots around their property.
LVT employees do not monitor the cameras. Our customers own all of the data coming from the units, and they decide who monitors the footage. - LVT customers have the option to share camera footage with law enforcement. Some police departments are direct customers of LVT and use LVT to assist with public safety efforts. Otherwise, LVT does not provide footage/customer data unless required by law with a valid warrant or subpoena.
- When LVT Units are deployed, some customers have reported up to a 100% reduction in crime depending on the type of crime and its location. Cities including Opelika, AL, and Paducah, KY, decreased shoplifting by 40% (Opelika) and burglaries by 54% (Paducah) during a third-party study on the impact of LVT Units in collaboration with retailers and government officials.
- LVT’s AI is trained on millions of datasets of anonymous good actor and bad actor behaviors in everyday outdoor settings, such as parking lots, public gatherings/events, and secured perimeters. The focus of LVT’s training is to teach the AI what constitutes good behavior versus bad behavior, and to potentially identify a person seeking help. This approach makes any potential biases, such as appearance, ethnicity, or gender, irrelevant to the resulting behavior detection models.
- LVT does not train or use any AI models that have been trained with racial, gender, ethnic, or other prejudicial bias. LVT believes in the ethical use of AI, focusing on behavior instead of gender, race, ethnicity, or any other profiling factors.
- LVT does not use any facial recognition technology.
