LiveView Technologies Teams Up with the Puyallup Tribe to Monitor High Trafficked Areas

Decreased Crime & Increased Savings

January 24, 2022

OREM, UT, January 24, 2022 LiveView Technologies (LVT), a leading provider of cloud-based video surveillance and analytics, announced today that its next-generation surveillance system has helped dramatically reduce crime on the Puyallup Indian Reservation in Washington State; while saving the tribe more than $100,000 a year in security costs. The Puyallup Nation Public Safety Division needed to improve surveillance around the reservation, specifically at public events. Because of the remote and temporary locations, Dennis Young, the Tribe’s Public Safety Director, knew he needed security units that were easy to move.

“Fireworks season is like the wild west,” said Young. “We have 20 security personnel and ten police officers for 30 days, but we still needed more eyes.” Young said the LVT units were a perfect fit as they are wireless, use active deterrence, and are easy to relocate after the event is done. “In today’s world, you’re always looking over your shoulder,” Young continued, “Merely observing LVT units makes tribal members feel safer.”

The LVT surveillance and analytics system allows the department to monitor areas where a guard can’t be stationed. The department has stationed the LVT units at the tribal docks to secure watercraft, along their Halloween parade route and in the police department’s parking lot. Units are moved as frequently as needed, sometimes up to twice a month.

Currently, an LVT unit is stationed at the cultural center after $20,000 worth of wood was stolen some months ago. Since then, crime in that area entirely ceased as the units continue to provide 24/7 surveillance. With the success of the camera units, the tribe plans to invest in four additional units.

LVT surveillance systems can do the job of 10 to 15 officers, allowing officers to be deployed elsewhere throughout the community. “That alone is worth the investment,” concluded Young.

The Puyallup Tribe, with more than 5,600 registered members, is one of the country’s most well-known Native American tribes. The majority of members live on the reservation located in and around Tacoma, Washington.
