When I was a kid, I used to love watching the GI Joe cartoon. I still have the opening theme song memorized. The really cool thing about that cartoon is at the end of every episode they would include some sort of learning moment followed by the phrase, “Now you know, and knowing is half the battle!”

Now, after all these years, that phrase rings in my mind as I talk with people across industries. Think about it. There is data for everything. Our inboxes get flooded with different data about things we might be interested in, and then data is collected on those emails. Did we open them? Did we click a link? Did we reply?....and on and on.

Data can be gathered on anything. However, if we don’t make that data usable by collecting, organizing, and presenting it in a usable way, it is just noise.

Here’s the reality. DATA IS USELESS, UNLESS IT IS USABLE.

When talking about security, the data that is important can vary from industry to industry. Heck, there is even variance within the individual industries themselves. Therefore, the key for any organization to obtain usable data is finding a platform partner that can organize and present it properly.

What is being captured by my cameras? What is being reported by our guards? Do I know what the guards are doing? Do I know how the cameras are functioning? Am I asking too many questions?

These are just a few of the thousands of questions that are asked by companies every day.

Once you’ve deployed a platform like LiveView Technologies that gives you your security camera views, archived footage, alert archives, and analytics on health and security data all in one place, you can easily make sense of it all.

Why is this so important?

When you have the right data and metrics, presented in an easily digestible format (USABLE), it is easier to make decisions. Is my system effective? Data says YES. In fact, it shows me how each piece works together to be the most effective it can be. If something is a red flag, it alerts me and shows me. I can now easily take steps to correct it.

One customer uses the LVT Platform to augment their security guard services. For their specific use case, the LVT analytics allowed them to see that they have guards in use at the wrong times. They then moved those guards to a different schedule, instantly improving their effectiveness. Doing so, they found that the mobile camera system did indeed handle everything they needed during specific hours, while the guards and the mobile unit combined provided the perfect solution during other hours.

Data, presented properly, gave them the knowledge to make a decision that helped them to maximize their security while cutting costs overall.

The GI Joe team never went into a mission without first reviewing the available data and understanding what they were confronting. They then formulated a plan for the safest, most effective outcomes and executed. Real life scenarios are the same!

No matter what business you’re in it is important to know what is going on, whether it’s a baseball team (think Moneyball and the Oakland A’s) or security at your company. The fact is the more you know and understand, the better prepared you are and the better decisions you make.

“Now you know, and knowing is half the battle” GO JOE!
